About the city
Barcelona lays out two very different street patterns that are instantly recognisable in Street View. The Gothic Quarter and El Born form a medieval maze of alleys that open onto the Cathedral, Plaça Sant Jaume and La Rambla, the pedestrian promenade running down to the harbour and the Columbus statue, with the Boqueria market to one side.
To the north opens Cerdà's Eixample, a perfect grid of blocks with chamfered corners, crossed by Passeig de Gràcia, where Gaudí's Casa Batlló and La Pedrera stand. Higher up rises the Sagrada Família, and towards the sea lie Barceloneta and the waterfront.

The chamfered corner (the diagonal cut-offs of the Eixample blocks) is the clearest clue that you are in Barcelona and not another grid city. Look for bilingual Catalan-and-Spanish signs, the Metro's diamond M, the pavement tiles with the Barcelona flower (the panot) and the red TMB buses. The narrow, winding Gothic quarter is ideal for Hide & Seek and Scotland Yard; the Eixample grid suits Rally and Meet-up.
